Lock Lock: French Fortress, Royal Residence and Scary Prison. Modern horse castle

The castle of the horse is located near the Loire, or rather next to her influx of Endre. He himself has suffered a lot in the century of its existence, but still attracts tourists, because the oldest Donjon of France is located here. This quadrangular tower is still towers over the horse.

Ancient history

The horse was born when Fulk I was ordered to build a wooden tower on this place, she had to defend the local village. His receiver of Nerra decided to build a stone fortress in the same place. He all the time was bent with the Blois dynasty, so he needed powerful fortifications.

In general, the owner of the castle, you might say, was obsessed with fortifications, wherever he had to live, he erected them. But rather it was not his whim, but the vital necessity at the warlike time.

Donjon began to build in 1005. On the surface it may not seem very much reliable and scary, because was at the height of 38 meters and a maximum width 25. However, in fact the building was in truth, impregnable at the time. Dongon walls were more than three meters wide, so storming the fortress was meaningless.

Moreover, it was completed all the time and made more imprehensible. As a result, construction continued until 1070. But by that time, Nerra had already died (by the way, he was buried in a horse) and bequeathed his fortress Joffua d'Izu. This receiver, nevertheless, defeated the Blois Graph, but did not leave the idea about further strengthening the fortress.

Time is bloom

This time is considered to be "gold" for the horse. All new buildings were erected here, the castle was strengthened and completed. But the time of calm passed when Graph Fulk took the English princess in his wife. Now the castle comes every 50 years to take the new owners, among whom were Henry II of, Richard the Lionheart and Philip Augustus even.

The last in 1205 ordered the restoration work in a horse, elevated a residential building with the towers and decided part of the castle to go under the prison.

Visited this castle and Jeanne d'Ark. Here she tried to convince Dofina Karl to take the throne of France. It was in 1429.

And already in 1444, the hostess of the castle became Favorite Karl VII, the famous Kurtisanka Agnes Sorel. She was called the "beautiful lady."

She gave birth to a king of three children and, although very loved luxury, always sympathized with the needy and sacrificed money for charity. She died here and in her will wished to rest in the cathedral of Saint-Ur.

The clergymen naturally protested how the curtain can be buried in holy place? However, Agnes Sorel was not so simple and took place where it will be buried, 2 thousand gold.

The clerics had a choice or take money and bury her in the church, or give money to the castle and bury her there. We chose, naturally, the money, stating that the "beautiful lady" is worthy of being buried in a holy place.

Prison Lock Lock

The dungeon of the castle was not empty, there was a lot of prisoners languished. There was Filipp de Commen, at one time the betrayal in relation to Louis Xi, Duke Moro, Bishop Balti. These people even left references to themselves in the castle. For example, Moro in his cell draw inscriptions and left the drawings. Polyptih and carved altar remained from languishing there.

Tourists can get into some underground premises of the horse. For example, you can go to the torture chamber of the 15th century. Here fourth prisoners chained in the shackles still stored here.

And Louis Xi ordered to build a cell for the bishop ballet here. It can also be seen in the horse. True, this is an accurate reconstruction, not the original, but still makes it surprise, how was the unfortunate bishop of his life in it.

Coming out of the underground prison, you can climb the oldest Donjion. To get to his top will have to be patient and overcome 150 steps.

But from here you can see the entire city and all the buildings of the castle, as well as the fortified walls that stretched 2 kilometers and defended the city from enemies.

Its large-scale restoration began in 1806, and after about half a century, the castle was assigned the status of a meaningful historical monument France.

The construction of the main tower of the castle the Last began in 1005 and was conducted for about 65 years. The sizes of the tower were small (25 by 15 meters), however, a significant height (38 meters) and the three-meter thickness of the stone walls did this fortress almost impregnable for that time. The construction of the fortress began Count Fulk Nerra, who was in a state of an incessant war with his neighbors. He died in 1040 and was buried in the castle of a horse.

The history of the Lock Lock is connected with other known names in French and world history. Its owners, residents and prisoners were many political figures of the Middle Ages. So, in the XII century, the castle owned the king of England Richard Lion's heart. In 1429, after the victory over Orleans, Jeanne D'Ark convinced Dofina Karl to suffer into the throne of France. In the second half of the XV century settled in the castle of Loches mistress of King Charles VII, «beautiful lady" Agnes Sorel. After death, it was buried in the local church of Notre Dam de Sore, also known as Saint-Urs. The prisoner of the castle of the horse for many years was the patron of Leonardo da Vinci, the Duke of Milan Lodovico Sforza. From this point, other buildings of the castle of the horse are clearly visible, as well as the cluttered settlement, surrounded by the fortress walls.

The Loic Castle (Château de Loches) is located in the Loire Valley, it is located on a hill above the Endre River. His name happened from the Roman settlement Lucca or Loccae. The archaeologists at this place were found golden Roman coins.

The first mention in the annals of Losch appear in the V century, when at the behest of the bishop of Tours Eustace (Eustache) in Loccae church was built St. Mary Magdalene. In 491 years Ursus de Cahors on nicknamed Bear builds in the northern part of the current medieval city Monastery and Mill on the Endre River for Monks. After his death in 508, Senoch became his successor to the head of the monastery, he gave his name a neighboring village Saint-Senoch. There is a wooden fortified settlement on the site of the current fortress. Loches mentioned in chronicles in 742, when the mayor of the palace Carloman (son of Charles Martel) and his brother Pepin the Short, who later became king of the Franks fought against Gunalda I, Duke of Aquitaine and Gascony and seized Loches.Read more about this period of dark centuries in the article "The history of France from Julia Caesar to Carroling, or why it is dangerous to touch his wife for the ass. So these events are described in the "Chronicle of Acts of Consulov Anju": "This Fulco took a wife from the county tour, named Rosilia, from a noble family, the daughter of Varnary, who at that time owned three fortresses in the tour, namely the horses (Loches), Villentrasti (Villentrasti) and Guya (Haia ), Two of which Fulco subsequently illegally assigned. This varnalarium, whose daughters married Fulco, was the son of Adelaud, who Karl Bald gave horsis. "

In the tenth century, the incessant quarrels occur between the Counts of Blois and the counts of Anjou, the castle of Loches is the front line of the Angevins. Count Anjui Joffroi I Grizganesel strengthened the horse and built the Saint-Ours church. He was a great warrior. When the tours of the Tutons led by Edeltheted (Edelted ), Geoffrey Gray Robe fought under the walls of the city with the most powerful German knight Berthold, brother of the Duke of Saxony, and defeated him in personal combat. As the chronicle writes: "Queen, the blood relative of Joffroa Anzhuy, sent him a part of the belt of the blessed Virgin Mary, who was kept in her chapel - the thing Karl Bald brought from Byzantium; She punished him to tie her around the neck and assured that it would bring him a victory .... Teutons, together with their duke Edelt, returned to their lands. Joffroy asked the King and the Queen of the permission to return to their lands; He was presented a belt, as he desired, and he placed him in the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the horses in which he settled the canonikov, and which he generously gave out of his funds. "

Fulk Nerra, the greatest contribution to the strengthening of the castle. It was he who ordered to build in this place, instead of a wooden donjone, a powerful rectangular stone donzhon. Donta Lock Lock is one oldest of all preserved to our time of Dongs of France. The construction of donzhon castle was started in 1005. Its height is 38 meters, length 25 meters and a width of 15 meters. In his walls were pretended by the loopholes, and at the top there were cars. Entrance to the dungeon located in the three-meter height, and get into it it was possible only by a ladder, which can be easily removed during a castle siege.

Fulka Nerra dies in 1040 and was buried not far from the city of the horse in the abbey of the abbey (Abbaye de Beaulieu). His grave was destroyed during the revolution. Joffwrui II Anjui continued on Bloian's graphs politics of his father, aimed at reducing their influence and displacement from the tour. In 1044, in the battle of Nui near Saint-Martin-le-Bo Joffroy won a decisive victory over Blois. During the battle, the graph of Blois Tibo III was captured, which was transferred to the Count Anjouss all the rights to the turret.

This allowed the counts of Anjuic for many years to settle down in the castle of the horse. Gradually, new fortifications were erected around Donta. Joffwru V. Angeysky becomes the wife of the daughter of the king of England. His eldest son Henry II Plantagenet became the first king of England from the Platagenets dynasty, one of the most powerful monarchs of the XII century, whose possessions extended from Pyrenees to Scotland (see map).

Heinrich II begins the war with the king of France by Phillip Augustus, quarreling with his son Richard's heart and comes into war with him, although it puts up with him and announces him with his heir. Deadly wounded, the king, at his request, was taken to Shinon Castle, where he died. After the entry into the throne of England, his talent brother John the landless power of plantagenets in France quickly melted. King Philip Augustus joined one area for his crown. In 1205, the city tour and the castles of the horse and shinone were captured.

Philip Augustus restored and strengthened the fortress, in the northern part of the castle an old residential building with towers and a sentinal belt was built. It was here after the capture of Orleans in June 1429 Jeanne D'Ark convinced Dofina Karl to suffer into the French throne in Reims.

Shortly thereafter, Agnes Sorel settled in the castle.

Agnes Sorel became Freillan at the courtyard of Queen Maria Anjou, when she was a little more than twenty years. Legends went about her beauty. After seeing a blonde, blue-eyed Agnes, Carl was fought by her charm, as the same evening admitted to her in feelings, a month later, Agnes became the favorite of Charles VII. This was known to all the courtyard except the queen, until once in the halls royal Palace She did not see his rival, walked with naked breasts. The immodest behavior of the court lady was outraged by a dishellious queen.

The dogs of the queen was confirmed only when Agnes became pregnant, and on the day of birth, the king was so worried that there could be no doubt to be - married treason was obvious. Oddly enough, the queen became close to the opponent, they began to walk together, ride a hunt, discuss affairs in the country.

Madame Sorel gave birth to a king of four daughters, who her beloved, despite the persuasion of approximate, gave birth trials of Valua. It was Agnes Sorel that made it possible to carry diamonds not only by the royal individuals of male, but also women, she first introduced long loops, which the church called the "devilish tail" and banned to wear their noble ladies. And the decollet, very frivolous exposed female breast, and at all caused outrageous surroundings.

Agnes Sorel had many titles, but only one title went down in history and became inextricably linked with Agnes - Title Madame Bota (ladies of beauty).

In 1450, shortly before his death, she asked her to bury her in the beloved Church of Notre Dame de Sore, known today called Saint-Ur, which she taught 2 thousand gold ecu.

During the revolution, the soldiers broke the alabaster statue, desecrated the grave and its remains. In addition, the old residential building, Chapel Anna, prison cameras and the Church of Notre Dame suffered from the hands of revolutionaries

In the XV century, the kings of France complemented the old housing complex with new residential buildings. The castle appears the Martello guard tower and the new tower.

The territory of France is filled with various attractions, including many majestic buildings. A special place among them is occupied by unique and beautiful locks. Each of them has its own special history and unique architecture. However, more attention should be paid to the beautiful one - lock Lock (Chateau de Loches). It is the most ancient structure built in the Medieval Epoch.

Located near the castle near Paris in the provincial town of the horse in the south of the Endre River. To this day, he, unfortunately, came in a dilapidated form, but it gives him even greater importance and values. Let's talk more about this outstanding building, reminiscent of the history of past centuries.

Lock the horse and his story

The history of this majestic structures began in the IX century, when his future lands were in possession of the Anzhui Graph Fulka I Red. It was he who instructed his subordinate to build a castle. However, construction (at that time, carried out from the tree) limited to a wooden tower, which defended the nearby settlement related to it using the tunnel in the rocks.

After the death of Fulka of the Redhead, the structure went into the inheritance of the cruel and bloodthirsty foul of Nerru, obsessed with his security, he gives an order to build a stone fortress on the spot of the wooden tower. Despite its modest sizes: the height of 38 meters and a width of 25 meters Duzhon did the castle to a hard-to-reach fortress. The thickness of the walls, which is three meters, as well as the establishment of devices that were covered with ill-wishers boiling resin and shells, any attempts to capture the castle were easily stopped.

In 1040, Nerr dies, however, according to his testament, the body remains forever as the horse drunk on the territory of the castle. The powerful structure goes into the ownership of the successor of the Graph Joffua to the Madel d'Izu. He plunges the enemy of his ancestor and is engaged in strengthening and expanding the fortress. This period is considered the time of the heyday of the castle, it was then that most of its fortifications were erected.

At the turn of the XI-XII centuries. The hereditary construction of the graphs is in decline, the last heir to the Count family is engaged with the daughter of the king of England, and their son Henry Plantagenet becomes the English king and opens the war with the French monarch of Philipp-August, which is selected from the young ruler, most inherited possessions, including a horse. Next, the owners of the castle are changing almost every plasticity. They were: Richard Lion Heart, Philip August, who replaced each other several times according to the results of armed attacks.

In the period when the castle was owned by Philip Augustus (1205), restoration of the structure is carried out, and in its northern part there is a residential building with the towers adjacent to it and a sentinal belt. Moreover, the considerable part of the castle by order of this French monarch was granted to the state as a prison.

In the middle of the XV century. The luxurious Kurtisana Agnes Seresel, who gave three beautiful children to King Carlo Vii, became driving a huge castle. At this time, another hunting pavilion and the guard tower (MARTELLO) are added to the Donjone, the fortress wall and the watchtower near the residential building.
Over time, the castle also appears Chapel Anna Breton, who was his wife Charles VIII, and after his death married Louis XII. Life filled with troubles (until 23 years old girl lost her mother, father, four children and her husband), forced her to constantly pray in one of the corners of the castle, it was this room and was named her honor.

Lock Lock Prison in France
Walls of the castle became the place of imprisonment of many famous people. It was serving a sentence that betrayed Charles XI, Cardinal de la Balti. He was concluded in the Round Tower in 1469. There is information that he was planted in one of the cameras invented by them (it was a small cell, which at night rose a few meters from the floor to prevent the offense of the criminal).

The traitor Louis Xi is another recovery of the Majestic Walls - the famous historian Philip de Commen. Also prisoners have become: captured by Duke Milan, Lodovico Sforza and many others.

Moreover, there is a legend that there are entire catacombs under the lock, which produced minerals. In these underground rooms, one of the owners of the castle - Ponbryan, once found a mummified corpse. In this regard, there is an opinion that during the reign of Karl VII in the dungeon, the hall of torture was equipped.

In 1790, most of the horse was destroyed by revolutionary. Almost nothing has become from the residential building, chapels, prisons and even the churches of Notre Dame, located nearby.

In the city

On PL. de la marne installed monument to the writer Alfred De Vigni, Horn of the horse. Nearby, on Rue Des Jeux, there is a house where he was born. Having passed through the Corderage Gate (XV century), standing on the waterfront, and from them along Rue Moulin, then on the Rue St-Antouan, you can go to tower Saint-Antoine (Tour de St Antouan, XVI century).

The landmark is presented saint-Ur Church (Eglise St-Ours).

It belongs to a rare type of Romanesque architecture: two pyramidal roofs crowning temple vaults, closed between the two towers. Violla Le Duke considered this church "unusual for the whole world."

Initially, the nec church overlapped with wooden structures, then the original hexagonal pyramids of stone appeared.

The towers, one above the medium, the other over the portal were built in the XI and XII centuries. The portal is decorated with a thread: the beasts and plants are cut around the board. Figures of animals are especially interesting - they resemble medieval bastiarys.

In the tympanum of the portal, executed in "Plantagenet style", that is, in late Gothic style - relief depicting the Virgin Mary, however, is poorly preserved. In the crypt of the Church, fragments of roman painting remained. The style of frescoes, distinguished, according to the French historians of art, "graftism", quite primitive. This church was built on the spot, which occupied the fortress between the XI and XII centuries. Her portal is crowned with "worship of the Magi". Inside we can see the first today ancient part The castle dated by the XI century, and other, later parts relating to the XIV and XV centuries.

Not far from the Renaissance Town Hall (1535-1543) there are gates of Picok (XV century). On the Rue du Chateau are the Renaissance Building of the Office of Gender Heinrich II and a house with a centaur of the Times of Francis I. The same street leads to the royal gate through which you can get into the castle of the horse.

History

The history of the castle of the horse is closely related to the history of France. The first strengthening (wooden tower) on the site of the modern castle arose in the second century. This tower served to protect the village adjacent to her and was associated with it underground transitions laid in the rocks. The ownership originally belonged to Fully Red, Count Anjou, and the stone fortress built his successor to Fulk III Nerra ("Black"), Duke Anjou. Fulk Nerra, who became a graph at the age of 17, entered the history of France as a conqueror who spent his whole life in wars with his neighbors - Countda de Blois. He was the son of Fulka of the good - a man of spiritually rich, who had a literary talent, which is attributed to the famous words cited in all memoirs - the words spoken by Louis V: "An ignorant king is nothing like a downtown, put on the crown". Fulk Nerra, a man is extremely tough and at the same time a devout, pilgrimage to Jerusalem made three times to redeem his sins. To this characteristic Fulka Nerra should add its obsession in the construction of numerous donzhons and military fortifications: it built about a dozen impregnable castles-fortresses, which was dictated by the requirements of that era. These include Monresor, Monrishar and Lange.

In the horse was built donzhon Between 1005 and 1070. On the sides, its dimensions were 25 x 15 m, the height was exceeded 38 m, and the wall thickness ranged between 2-3 m. The walls were cut through the braces and are crowned with machines, through which throwing these shells on the precipitating the strength of enemies. Inside on three floors are the fireplaces, the risers of which are visible on the roof.

Nerra died in 1040 and was buried in the horse. His successor, Joffroi Martel d "Anju, managed to defeat the counts of De Blois in Saint-Martin-le-Bo. Thus, the counts of Anzhuy could calmly cooked in the castle of the horse, where they built other protective structures from the south side. They remained the owners of the adjacent places Until the last of Fulkov married the daughter of the Duke of Normandy, who was also the king of England. Their son Henry Plantagenet was elected King of England in 1154 and was soon forced to oppose the King of France Philip-August, who captured most of the ownership of plantagenets. After his death, the horse moved to his son - Richard a lion's heart. Richard went to the Holy Earth in the third crusade. But on his return, he was captured to the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Henry VI, and Philip-August took advantage of this circumstance to get from John Landless, brother Richard, many places, among whom a horse entered. Obtaining freedom, Richard Lion's heart again in 1195 Castle the horse after the battle, which lasted only three hours. He died in a tire four years later. The legal heir to Arthur was killed by John landless, which continued the battle with Philip-August. In 1205, the French king again seen the line after a year of the siege.

The castle, thus, moved to the French crown, which demanded the strengthening of initial protective structures, and later, in the XIII century, - construction Old residential building With towers and a sentinal belt located in the northern part. It was here in June 1429 after the capture of Orleans occurred Zhanna D "ARC with Downey Carl, during which she managed to convince him to be crowned in Reims.

In the tower of this wing of the castle Karl VII settled Anise Sorel, an excellent noble lady, which in 1444 became the first official favorite of the King of France.

She was known under the name of the "beautiful lady" not only thanks to beautiful appearance, but also because the king gave her a domain Bote-An-Champagne (from Fr. Beaute - Beauty). Anise was only 20 years old when the forty-year-old king fell in love with her. She was interested in public affairs, she loved luxury very much, and the king often gave her jewels and rare baubles from the east. As a girl, Antsa Dam de Louches (Eglise Norte-Dame de Loches), known today as the Church of Saint Urs (Eglise St-Ours), provided a gibby girl.

Anise died in 1450 at the age of 28, apparently, from the consequences of severe pregnancy. However, there was a rumor that her the future king of Louis Xi was poisoned, whom she rejected the harassment, having left Shinone to a horse. She desired to be a buried beloved church, which she taught 2,000 golden ecu. When Louis XI climbed onto the throne, the monks tried to achieve permission from him to move the remains of this "sinner" in the castle, referring to the fact that she could not stay in such a holy place. However, the threat to pick up all the tested by the monastery of Dara Anise forced the churchmen to immediately refuse their requirements, and the remains of Anise remained there before the revolution. During the revolution, the Church of Notre Dame was destroyed, and Anise Sorel's grave was desecrated. Later, the dust moved to the castle.

Throughout the XV century, by order of the Kings of France, the old residential building was complemented by new residential buildings, a new tower and a guard tower of Martello.

The royal apartments then included one tower and one fortress wall of the XIII century, the ensemble of buildings from the Watchtower of the XIV century and the Hunting Pavilion of the XV century, leading to the gate of the Cordwell (Franciscans) and the Tower of Saint-Antoine.

In the newly built wing is chapel Anna BretonskayaThe first wife of Karl VIII, then Louis XII.

This unfortunate queen from early youth persecuted great sorrows. By 23 years she lost her parents, her husband and four children. She loved to retire for prayers in a small room built in the horse at her order. The walls of the room decorated the sculptural images of a silver brainton ends on a blue background. In one of the corners of the room there was an altar, in another - a fireplace.

During the revolution, the rebels penetrated the castle, destroyed the old residential building, Chapel Anna, Prisons and the Church of Notre Dame. Accepting the grave of Anise Soror for the grave of Saint, they defiled her, dropped the statue. Later, the remains of Anise were transferred to the castle, and her tomb is currently in one of the halls of the old corps. "Beautiful lady," which we see today is a copy from the alabaster original. It is depicted with hands folded in prayer, with two angels and two lamen in their feet.

The castle of the horse served also prisonAnd many noble faces languished in her chambers starting from the XV century. Cardinal de la Balley, who participated in a conspiracy against Karl XI and handed him in the hands of Karl bold, was concluded in 1469 in round Tower. They say that ironically, the Cardinal has been concluded in one of those chambers, which he himself invented. Because of their small sizes (1.50 x 1.75 m) cell cells called "girls". At night, the cell suspended a few meters above the floor to prevent any attempt to escape.

Philip de Commen, the famous historian, was also a prisoner of a horse. He betrayed Louis XI, putting on the side of the group of conspirators, hostile king. Paris subsequently translated into Paris, he was pardoned by the king.

In the Tower, Martello was kept Lovochik Sforza, called Moro, Duke Milan. This brilliant sophisticated writer and the patron was captured in the battle at Novare and after a short stay in Bourget was translated into a horse. As a sign of respect for his knowledgeable genus, Louis XII provided him with some "convenience", a tact, for example, as a society and masters society, as well as the opportunity to have furniture and fireplace. Moro himself painted the walls and an extended arch of his camera, deciding his image of a heraldic helmet, snakes and a star, and also made several inscriptions. One of them: "The one who is not pleased."

Ludoviko Sforza was imprisoned in this chamber for eight years, until 1508, and they say that, barely having received freedom, he instantly died, blinded by the radiance of the Sun.

Ancient legends also tell about the large number of rooms and caves under the castle, where the rock has once mined. And as if at one time the owner of the Ponbryan Castle, wanting to examine underground premises, ordered to open several vintage stamped doors. After passing through a plurality of underground galleries, breakthrough in the very core of the rock, the owner reached the last portal, behind which there was a room hiding a high height person, in a sitting pose, clasp his head. Upon closer look, it turned out that it was a corpse turned into a mummy due to the dry air of the prison chamber. The wind, bursting from the outside, instantly turned it into dust. Here was a small chest in which neatly folded clothing was lying. According to some experts, this episode is not fiction, but a real event, since the bones of this mysterious prisoner were kept for a long time in the church of Notre Dam de Sove.

The rise of court and secular life in the horse lasted long. The castle turned into prison became a monument and was very destroyed in 1790 by revolutionary citizens of the city.

In the royal gate, a powerful bastion with two towers of the XIII century, a museum of the local landscape system of the XIX century Emmanuel Lansyer (1835-1893) is located (1835-1893). His workshop is restored, in which paintings of the painter and the collection of Eastern art collected them are exposed.

On the right and to the left of them the towers of the XIII century. The oldest building is donzhon (1035), protects the southern tip of the rock. Donjon stands on a hill near Endra, surrounded by powerful walls, enlarged and converted into XII-XIII centuries. Donjone height reaches 37 meters, an elongated plan, rectangular. The tower of smaller sizes is adjacent to one of his sides, and there is a staircase. Vertical thrust members of the walls, isolated from massive squares of the stone. Corners back cone-shaped counterphorties. Three tiers inside the donzhon have long collapsed, but the main memberships are still clearly visible. Frames and remnants of fireplaces are traced, niches for storing supplies. In the lower tier there were warehouse and well.

The entrance to Denjon was located at an altitude of three meters from the ground, in a narrow turret with embrasures. Apparently, there used to existed a special pavement staircase that facilitated the passage inside. Stone spiral staircase with 150 steps leads to the top, from where you can interview the entire fortress. And then it becomes clear that the walls stretching more than two kilometers conclude a whole city - with defense fortifications, streets, houses, palaces and church. Karl VII prison, and then Louis Xi was in two towers - a round Tour-Rond and Tour-Magtell. On the tour-Rond inscription: "Come in, gentlemen, to the king, our lord."

In the dungeons preserved camera tortureequipped with Carle Vii in the XV century. It keeps shacks with which the ankles of prisoners are attached at quarters.

You can see a copy of the famous Louis XI cell, in which she spent 11 years bishop ballet.

In the northern part of the castle are Royal apartments (Logis Royal, XV-XVI centuries).

The "old" palace, built in the XIV century, has its own four fortified towers. One of them, the biggest, wears the name "Beautiful Anyazh" and devoted to the memory of the royal favorite.

In the tower was from 1809 to 1970, the marble tombstone of this such famous lady of the late Middle Ages. The "new" palace, continuing "old", is already being built in the taste of the next time, transition to Renaissance and partly resembling the style of "Wing of Louis XII" in Blois.

There are several uncomplicated monuments of visual art in the palaces. One of them - tombstones Anise Sorel - installed in the northern wing, built for Karl VIII and Anna Breton.

On the marble plate, the figure of a deceased with prayer-folded hands is resting from marble. Her head and legs are two angels who need to be reached by Soriet on the sky. Angels are reminded - on the consonance in pronunciation - and about the name of the dead. Just like the lambs in her legs: Latin "lamb" sounds like "agnus". Especially expressively face the statue, full of noble grandeur. This is a gravestone, perhaps the work of the sculptor Jacques Morel, filled in the middle of the XV century.

It should be noted that some parts of the monument are restored, since the revolutionaries in the late XVIII century are strongly damaged by tombstones.

On the walls of one of the premises of the "new" palace hanging triptychrepresenting the "Procession on Calvary", "Crucifix" and "Removing from the Cross".

Saturated, as if enamel paints glow like jewelry: all the details are finely outlined. Triptych is a work of the master who came out of the workshop of Jean Fuce (his name is unknown) and typical for French art XV century. Ageny Sorole resembles a copy of Diptych (the original is in Antwerp), performed by Fuka, where the Favorite Karl VIII poses for Madonna.

The castle terrace overlooks the city and the Endre River Valley.
