Croatian eggs - original tackle

Croatian eggs are not a culinary dish; this is the name of the bait for fishing. Sitting on the shore with a fishing rod is a favorite pastime of many people. Whole industries are working to meet the demand for fishing-related products. New lures and tackles are invented, sometimes very avant-garde, sometimes created in the image and likeness of ancient analogs.

Story

Croatian eggs were invented by Branimar Kalinic. He aimed to create a lure that could be used to fish in heavily overgrown bodies of water. The "blank" can be considered a prototype. It was an egg-shaped bait carved out of wood. It was equipped with one fairly large hook, and its prying was bent up. A strip of lead was nailed down with nails. Different types of trees were used, but light, everything depended on local customs.

Modern designs repeat the design of their "great-grandfather". The material for the manufacture is wood. The load (usually lead) is poured into the body of the bait. This option was invented by specialists from Bumble Lure (Croatia). This factory produces Croatian eggs by hand. Lure sizes:

1. Large:

Name: Jerk J-9;

Weight: 9 grams;

Size: 52 mm.

2. Small:

Name: Jerk J-7;

Weight: 7 grams;

Size: 47 mm.

It can be equipped with one or more hooks. Made of balsa wood, it is durable and has excellent buoyancy. The principle of balancing resembles a tumbler-carriage. The body of the blank is coated with a durable yacht varnish.

The successful egg shape prevents the bait from falling over or overturning. Thus, the hook is constantly above the water, avoiding grabbing the grass. The front is directed downward, which contributes to the formation of waves and noise. In addition, the hook rises higher above the surface of the water.

The colors of the bait can be different, they are selected depending on the season and time of day:

  • at dusk it is better to use dark contrasting or black;
  • in the afternoon - poppers for roach or perch, a green shade is well suited;
  • to stimulate pike bites, eggs of gold or orange colors are used.

Little tricks

Amateur anglers equip Croatian pike eggs with additional devices. To ensure a good catch, some fishermen hook a twister (imitation of a worm) or a vibrotail (imitation of a small fish) on the hook. The goal of this enhancement is to add some play to the main Croatian Egg game.

In the habitats of different types of predatory fish, tandem fishing (a combination of baits) with a Croatian egg is used. An excellent addition would be a twister on a leash. This allows you to catch perch along the way. For the leash, choose a hard and thick fishing line (0.4 mm) 15-20 cm long, then there is no overlap of the "steam locomotive" with the twister.

Kinds

Croatian egg (bait) can be of two types:

  • Hydroplane. It has a rounded shape, perfect for heavily overgrown with grass ponds. The very word "glider" means "to slide". Russian fisherman Konstantin Evgenievich Kuzmin is considered to be the author of the glider lures.
  • Popper. The front part has a cut. This allows the bait to make a characteristic noise during the drive. This sound resembles a splash of fleeing small fish and attracts the attention of a predatory fish. This bait is best used in open water, here its potential will be fully revealed.

Homemade

Croatian eggs are made by many craftsmen on their own at home. They can be made from cork, a piece of wood, or an appropriately shaped plastic float.

The manufacturing process itself is simple:

  • using an ordinary hacksaw, all unnecessary parts are sawn off from the float in such a way as to give it the shape of a barrel;
  • a longitudinal section is sawn in the barrel approximately to the middle;
  • paint is removed with sandpaper;
  • a couple of holes are drilled in the longitudinal cut, and the egg is shipped with lead;
  • a hook is inserted into the cut and filled with glue, epoxy resin, cold welding can be applied;
  • paint and varnish - the bait is ready.

Fishing technique

Fishing with a Croatian egg is used on reservoirs heavily overgrown with grass, even where there is no free water mirror. The fishing technique is very simple: they cast and begin to pull the bait over themselves. Almost all known types of wiring are used: fast and slow, jerks with pauses, gurgling, slipping, and others. Such a bait is suitable for catching not only pike, but also other predatory fish.

Advantages and disadvantages

Croatian eggs have become part of the fishing tackle kits for hobbyists. There are reasons for this:

The Croatian tackle also has its drawbacks:

  • unresistant to the bites of predatory fish (but this does not affect its quality in any way);
  • effective bite will be in two or three cases out of ten.

Egg repair consists of renewing the varnish, which can be done at home. This will protect the tackle from water impregnation and will allow it to be used for more than one season.

As for not very effective fishing, the feelings experienced at the sight of a predatory fish attacking the bait cannot be compared with any catch. Moreover, all this happens repeatedly and right on the surface of the water.
