DIY bait for crucian carp

- this is a fish with character, therefore, when catching it, you will need maximum effort and ingenuity. The weight of this fish can range from 0.2 to 4 kilograms. However, in artificial reservoirs, its size may exceed natural weight categories.

As a rule, in such reservoirs, crucian carp is even more capricious and the angler should pay special attention and apply all his skill when catching this fish.

Features of catching crucian carp

The habitat of this species is quite extensive and is located mainly in central Russia. Crucian carp can be found in ponds, rivers, canals with the presence of vegetation and a muddy bottom.

Fishing place

When choosing a fishing spot, a fisherman should follow a few helpful tips:

  1. It is necessary to take into account the presence of reeds or other vegetation in which crucian carp likes to live so much, especially in hot weather.
  2. Pay attention to underwater depressions or dimples. There, the water temperature is lower than on the surface, and, accordingly, the oxygen content is higher.

Fishing season

The best season for catching crucian carp is considered to be the end of spring or the beginning of summer. At this time, he actively manifests himself after spawning.

But the peak of activity occurs mainly in the morning hours, when the reservoir is covered with fog and the first rays of the sun are just beginning to hit the water surface.

With the arrival of summer, the activity of crucian carp decreases and fishermen have to lure him with the help of various baits and aromatic preparations.

What kind of bait is suitable for crucian carp

Crucian carp is considered a very picky fish, and when choosing a bait, it is necessary to take into account its habits and behavior in each specific water body. It is best to ask local fishermen about this, and then draw conclusions with the choice of bait.

What is better to choose store bait or homemade?

When preparing for fishing, due preference should be given to bait bought in a store, especially if the angler is going to an unfamiliar body of water. It has balanced all the ingredients that, according to experts, attract crucian carp.

Another positive quality is that this bait interacts well with moisture, and it will not be difficult to achieve the required consistency. Also, it will not take much time and the cost of buying such a bait will be much less than preparing it at home.

But for all its economy and versatility, it cannot take into account all the nutritional features of crucian carp in a particular reservoir. In this case, the purchased groundbait is replaced by a homemade bait.

The ingredients of homemade bait differ significantly from the purchased one, not only in composition, but also in smell, color, and consistency. Each angler has his own tricks and an individual approach to making this type of bait.

Making bait with your own hands

The composition of homemade bait should be identical in composition for all types of fish of the carp family.

However, the angler needs to know that crucian carp is one of those fish that never starve and, given this fact, you do not need to add too many extra ingredients to the bait.

Also, do not include unfamiliar aromatic substances in the bait, as they can scare away fish and harm further fishing.

The main composition of the bait for crucian carp includes the following components:

  • semolina or pearl barley;
  • cereals;
  • millet;
  • breadcrumbs;
  • flavors.

Also, many anglers tend to add milk powder or egg powder to the bait, which, when it gets into the water, forms a column of turbidity and lures prey.

However, if in addition to crucian carp, a large number of small fish live in the reservoir, then you should not add these ingredients in order to avoid false bites.

Recipe examples

Each angler has his own recipe for making groundbait. But the main options include the following:

  1. Recipe for groundbait from cereals. To prepare it, you will need: wheat and barley, 1 kilogram each, corn about 0.5 kilograms, semolina and cake, 200 grams each. All these components must be ground to flour and mixed. Divide the prepared dry mixture into doses and pack in bags. Having already arrived at the reservoir, the mixture is moistened with water and 3-5 drops of Corvalol are added to it to give it a scent. The finished substance is pressed into balls the size of a tennis ball.
  2. The recipe for groundbait from rusks. To prepare this bait you will need: 400 grams of fried sunflower seeds, 500 grams of bread crumbs, 500 grams of bran, 3-4 tablespoons of granulated sugar and vanillin. You can also use garlic or dill instead of vanillin. All of these ingredients are ground and mixed. As a baking powder, earth or sand is added to the groundbait. The finished mixture is poured with water until a viscous state. It is suitable for fishing in waters with small currents.
  3. Bran recipe with dried worms. To prepare such a bait, you need the following ingredients: bran about 500 grams, vanillin, dried ground hemp seeds and dried chopped worms. All these components must be mixed and filled with boiling water. Let the bait brew for 30 minutes, then strain it through a gauze cloth and add viscosity with earth or sand. This bait is great both for fishing in the current and for fishing in reservoirs with stagnant water.

Flavoring application

In order for the bait to attract crucian carp, various flavors are added to it.

In the modern world, there are a huge variety of aromatic substances, however, given the place of fishing, one should select flavors made on the basis of the roots of plants present in a particular reservoir.

These usually include egg capsule, calamus, cattail and reed. In addition to these flavors, additives such as:

  • garlic;
  • anise;
  • cocoa powder;
  • coffee and vanillin.

They are added to the groundbait just before fishing. In the water, such an aroma attracts crucian carp, which willingly swims up to the bait.

However, the angler must take into account the proportions, as excess can only scare the fish away.

The need to use aromatic substances in bait is limited by the season of active biting of crucian carp, most often it is the end of spring or the beginning of summer. In warm water, the aroma from bait spreads much faster and has a positive effect on biting activity.

Thanks to the combination of catchy bait with flavoring, the effect of fishing will bring only good emotions and you will only have to enjoy the moment spent on the shore.

Also, do not forget that when fishing for crucian carp, it is important to select good bait, which, in combination with the food offered to him, will be ideal for luring fish and a successful bite, after which an equally interesting process of fishing for this truly majestic fish will follow.
