Pike spinning test - choose the right one

Fishing gear spinning (from English - "to rotate"), appeared in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Its use has found wide application mainly for catching predatory fish. The first prototypes of spinning rods did not even have reels for winding fishing line. The current variety of spinning rods is widely represented by various manufacturers. Rods differ in quality, price, material and technical characteristics depending on the method and conditions in which they will be used. But today in our article we will discuss the topic of choosing a pike spinning test for different types of fishing.

The set that the spinning rod consists of is: a rod with built-in guides, reels, fishing lines. The main part of this equipment is the rod. It has a rounded shape with a large diameter in the lower part (butt) with a smooth taper in the upper part of the tip.

Spinning rods are:

  • telescopic, parts (knees) of which, when assembled, fit into each other;
  • two-knee;
  • multi-generational;
  • single-breasted (rarely used for sports purposes).

Application of various types of spinning rods

  1. Telescopic rods are used in the initial study of spinning fishing. Since they are not of great value, its breakdown in the process of working out the cast or release from the hooks will not entail any special material costs.
  2. Two-piece is the most common type of spinning rod. They are also subdivided into tunings: fast, medium and slow. Fast slender rods are those, in which, under certain loads, its tip bends; in slow action spinning rods at maximum load, the bending occurs in a uniform arc along the entire length. The middle tuning is intermediate, which includes the features of both previous types.
  3. Multi-elbows consist of three or more elbows to lengthen the rod in certain types of fishing. For example, I use this type of spinning rod for fly fishing for grayling in mountain rivers.

Spinning rod test.

Like the line, the rods have test lines. But if the marking for the line test indicates the maximum load that it can withstand at breaking, then spinning rods are tested for the minimum and maximum weight of the attachment used. The lure weight, which is indicated on the rod, is optimal for sensitive fishing in this intermediate range.

These tests are also categorized into four (excluding intermediate) classes:

  • ultralight from 0 to 5 gr.
  • light from 7 to 15 gr.
  • medium from 15 to 40 gr.
  • heavy from 40 and above gr.

Reputable spinning rod manufacturers indicate the actual test range. And about little-known brands of spinning rods, before buying a rod, it is better to consult on fishing forums or in specialized stores with consultant managers.

Rod length

The choice when purchasing a spinning rod is also influenced by its assembly length. The use of a certain rod length depends on the fishing method, terrain conditions, the bottom of the reservoir intended for fishing and the casting distance of the bait

  • Spinning rods with a length of 1.6 to 2.1 m are used for catching a predator on small rivers with dense coastal vegetation and where long-distance casting is not required. Ultra-light and lightweight attachments are used on such rods.
  • From a boat, they mainly fish with rods up to 2.7 m long, longer ones make it difficult to get fish out of the water, and worsens the comfort of its use in a confined space.
  • For long-distance casts from the shore, under favorable conditions, spinning rods with a length of 2.7 to 3.5 m are used.

Material

In the manufacture of spinning rods, their manufacturers use the main three types of material:

  • fiberglass(cheap, but has a high specific weight, which makes it difficult to use comfortably);
  • carbon fiber(durable, flexible, but expensive and conducts electricity well, dangerous to use in a thunderstorm);
  • composite(a versatile material consisting of carbon and fiberglass, inexpensive, but weighs heavier than CFRP).

Choosing a Pike Spinning Test

This is where fishing style comes to the fore. Indeed, for jigging, trolling or simple fishing with trolleys, they use completely different types of baits, differing from each other both in the game in the water and in the type and weight.

For Trolling

The main lure for this style of fishing is the trolling wobbler. This type of fishing is modern. The wobbler is designed in such a way that, subject to strictly defined characteristics, it is able to withstand the required fishing horizon for a long period of time. A trolling wobbler most often has a mass in the range from 10 to 200 grams, based on these data, the spinning test is determined. When implementing an easy method of trolling, spinning with dough is taken as a basis 10-60 g... heavy trolling requires spinning with dough up to 200 g.... Wobblers weighing 200 grams are used in marine fishing conditions, and require the use of rods, the test of which reaches 600 grams. For fishing in the open sea this is the "light" class, but for river fishing this figure is too high.

For jig

To catch a trophy-sized pike using a jig, you need to fish at a considerable depth, often in a severe current. Taking into account the terrain on which fishing will be carried out, select rods for jig. A spinning rod for light jig should have a dough in 14-56 g., in turn, a heavy jig requires a spinning test of equal 28-84 grams... These specific weights are due to the fact that the weight of the jig is measured in ounces (one ounce corresponds to 28 grams).

For jerk fishing

This style of fishing requires rods that qualify on a light-heavy basis. The light type of spinning rod has a test in 15-60 grams, in turn, a jerk spinning rod for heavy fishing is matched with a dough 50-150 grams... Separate weighty "pinocchio" require spinning with a 3-hundred gram dough.

For lures and wobblers

In conclusion, I would like to talk about rods for catching fishing trophies, namely about oscillating and rotating spinners, as well as about all kinds of wobblers and poppers. Spinning rods for this fishing, as well as for the above-described styles, are divided into light and heavy. Light class spinning rods have a test from 15 to 60 grams, the heavy class, in turn, is endowed with dough from 50 to 150 grams... Taking as a basis the standard weight index of spoons and spinning lures (20-60 grams), it becomes clear why they require rods corresponding to the test indicators presented above.

Taking into account all these indicators related to the technical characteristics of a spinning rod, make the choice that is right for you. Successful capture of a trophy is desirable.
