Choosing the optimal spinning rod for pike - length, test, action

To choose a spinning rod for pike that will suit all the features of a particular fishing, it is worth considering the characteristics of a spinning rod, such as length, test and action. It is according to them that you can choose the optimal form for each fishing.

What are the usual conditions for fishing on a pond? You can catch it by trolling or casting from the shore. For every situation, you can choose a rod with the right characteristics.

Choosing a pike spinning rod for fishing from the shore

If you are going for a walk, rivers or lakes, then you will need the longest spinning rod for pike. A length of 3 meters or more will be in demand for such a case. The optimal length of a spinning rod for coastal fishing is 3.30 - 3.60 meters. With such a length, casting with a spinning rod will be just "cannon".

Casting with a long rod from the shore will be "cannon".

The test of a fishing rod for coastal fishing is selected based on the main range of weights of the lures used, whether they are wobblers or jig lures. If your main wobblers all fit into the range of weights from 7 to 15 grams, then the pike spinning test can be selected from 5 to 25 grams.

Likewise, the test range is selected for any bait. If you fish with those that weigh 30, 40 and 60 grams, then the test of a rod for coastal fishing should be chosen from 25 to 75 grams. The working weights of the lures should be closer to the middle of the test range of the rod to ¾ of the upper limit.

The structure of the spinning rod for pike when fishing from the shore is selected based on the type of bait used. For fishing with jig lures, the Fast (fast) and Extra-Fast (Superfast) systems are suitable - a rigid blank with high sensitivity, in which only the upper part (Fast) or the very tip (Extra-Fast) bends.

A fast action rod is also suitable for fishing pike with wobblers and spinners, because only a hard blank can be used to effectively hook this predator when biting. The tips of the tees of a wobbler or a spinner should pierce the hard mouth of a pike when striking, and this can only be done when using a rigid rod.

Choosing a spinning rod for pike for casting from a boat

When fishing for pike from a boat, length is not as crucial as when fishing for this predator from the shore. Therefore, the length of the spinning rod when fishing from a boat can be virtually any - from 180 to 330 centimeters. Spinning rods shorter than 180 cm, for example, 150 cm and 165 cm, are justified either when fishing with ultralight lures or when fishing with trolling.

The spinning test will be selected in the same way as when fishing from the shore. However, when fishing from a boat, there is no such load on the bank when casting. In case you need to throw the bait further away, it is easier to swim a little closer on the boat.

The requirements for the formation of a spinning rod when fishing from a boat remain the same. Only rods can be picked up even harder, since the angler on the boat is more mobile than the angler on the shore. And if necessary, the fisherman on the boat will be able to maneuver, which cannot be done by the fisherman on the shore.

Choosing a spinning rod for pike by trolling

The length of the spinning rod for trolling should be such that it is convenient to control the tackle when driving, when fishing is done with several rods at the same time.

You can use both long (up to 270 cm) and short (from 150 to 180 cm) rods. The main requirement for the length is to be comfortable. Shorter rods are more suitable for plumb fishing, and longer ones will not be so. If you need to separate two gears from different sides of the boat away from each other, then it is easier to use not longer rods, but devices such as a trolling glider.

The top test of a trolling pike rod should be almost three times the average working weight of trolling lures. If the average weight of a wobbler in your suitcase is 25 grams, then the top test of your rod should be at 80-100 grams.

Wobblers for trolling fishing have a decent drag - you need a spinning rod with a good test.

This is due to the fact that the blank of a trolling rod experiences tremendous loads during trolling wiring - the resistance of water from the line, blade and body of the wobbler, or will depend on the speed of the boat when passing against the current.

And if the bait (wobbler or spinner) falls into a dead hook at a boat speed of 5 km / h, then the load on the blank will be shock.

The trolling range for pike can be medium to fast. It is not worth choosing rods for trolling with a parabolic or semi-parabolic action, which are very soft, since you will not be able to cut through the mouth of the pike when you strike. There will be many offensive descents, perhaps at the very side of the boat, where the pike is on a short tackle.
